Social
media changes every day, whether they are improvements or not. I do believe
social media will absolutely become even more mobile than it already is, as we are
a society that likes instant gratification. Social media is something of a
growing organism I’ve noticed over the last few years; people come up with new
applications, new ways to use social media to their advantage and are always
updating and trying to improve the current applications and modules. I think it
is good that it grows and changes as we all do, but sometimes I also think that
you shouldn’t mess with a good thing or you will upset the users that don’t
like rapid change.
I don’t think I would add any trends to the mix necessarily as
there are so many already out there but I do like the concept of web 3.0/
semantic web. I am a bit bias on this as I am a library technician student, and
we want to organize everything, classify it, etc. it is interesting to see how
that would work as the web is so big you can’t organize everything, but it is fascinating
how they said that they could somewhat create structures by creating ‘relationships’.
Also how they want to make search engines smarter in the future, to get to know
you personally to give you appropriate answers to your requests, I think might
end up going to far as it sounds like they want to make them smarter and I end
up having flashes of I robot.
I think it is a good idea overall that they
want to give machines metadata they can read so they can understand your
requests more adequately as this will make things easier on users and more
efficient. I think with all the technology emerging and improving/ updating
that people need to be careful still and know exactly how something on the web
works and uses the information they input as anyone might be able to access
this information later- due to improvement glitches it could also end up being
leaked. Change is good, but we should approach
it cautiously.

Re: Your first paragraph, seems like people are always complaining when Facebook, for example, makes a change. But as time goes on people get used to the changes and they become just part of what Facebook is. Timeline for example was resisted by MANY people but now is mandatory and if you really look at the way it was before timeline and how it is now, it was a great change. The fact is, change just scares people in general, and once they're forced to see the good in it they adapt and accept. Whatever changes are made in the future, I'm sure it'll be the same as what has happened in the past, people will complain, but ultimately accept the changes and move on.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you when you say technology is updating and it is good but you shouldn't change something that's good to something that just ruins it. I remember when Facebook kept updating their profiles I enjoyed it for a while until I got the timeline... After getting this I barely liked using Facebook but I slowly got use to it. I believe that soon enough we will be able to access more on our mobile devices then we can now. Everything will be at the palm of our hand and more people will start using tablets. Technology is constantly being updated daily even if it is the smallest thing. I recently just purchased the new Acer Window 8 laptop. The screen is touch and believe it or not it makes it much faster to control your computer!
ReplyDeleteI completley agree that we should approach technology with caution. To often these days do we focus on making things bigger and better without focusing on the consequences of what we have created. For instance, Facebook is great for socializing etc. but we do not comprehend how much of our personal life we put online for everyone to lurk. The same can be said about so many other of humans creations such as our expansions and removal of land for houses, highways and so forth. Social media will definatley be a part of our future, though we need to be careful on how we implement it and who will be effected.

ReplyDeleteI agree with your posting and also believe that people should be cautious when advancing or making improvements on forms of social media. As technology advances there will be need for better online security. If social media is advanced without sufficient security, a lot of personal information can be at risk for people. Keeping the users happy is very important and I know from my personal experience a lot of my Facebook friends disliked the addition of the timeline.
ReplyDeleteyes I agree we will be able to access the web and social media from more than our phones one day and social media will be integrated into our daily lives.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your post, and I also strongly agree that when advancing social media net works, and trying to improve it, people should be careful with their decisions. In my opinion people should be more careful with their decisions, because you don't know the consequences by advancing and increasing the quality of technology, there is always a down fall to everything. A good example would be Facebook, or Twitter. People all around the world really don't realize how much information about themselves they have posted on the internet, and because of the increase of technology, people will eventually be able to find out just about anything they want by using the internet, and that is unsafe.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you said in the first paragraph. "Social media changes every day, whether they are improvements or not." Personally, I am not a fan of change. At all. When the Facebook Timeline was introduced, I hated it and still do. One can say that Facebook is always changing, but I don't think that their changes are always improvements. This usually turns out to be the same for other social networking sites as well.
ReplyDeleteI also agree that personalizing search engines is kind of creepy. I do not want search engines knowing who I am and basing their search results on it. I would much prefer it if everyone got the same results.
There are so many directions that Social Media can go to, whether they be good directions or bad. I recently read this article where avid social media users gave their opinions on the future of social media.

I agree ! I love when you said that you shouldnt mess with a good thing, because users might not like it. It is so true, I know that when im using facebook and i finally got the hang of how to use it and i was familiar with the site, they all of a sudden changed things. Like the timeline affect, I honestly hated timeline at first, but the only thing is, people wont like the change just because it is something different, but we do learn to adapt quickly.
ReplyDeleteI agree so much! i actually hated the facebook timeline i thought it was the most dumbest thing, but then after while seeing how i couldnt get rid of it i got got used to it and learned a little more about it and finally got the hang of it. We are fast learners, some of us just faster. i also belive people should always be carefull online especially with their identity it never hurts to be too carefull. Really great job!
